Fair Trade

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

So it’s been a while since I made a post on my blog.  Not too much has happened.  Classes started again.  This semester I have Circuits Analysis II, Digital systems design, Differential equations, and engineering ethics *coughghaycough*.  So far so good I would say.  We’ll see after the first test though.

Got a book scanner not to long ago, started scanning my books in, I’ve got a few chapters from two of my books scanned in.  it doesnt take that long, I just haven’t had too much time at home to do it.

Marti Gras is coming up here soon.  Looking forward to that, if the weather cooperates.

Meet a girl, her name if Valerie.  Super cute, pretty dorky like me, we’re getting along pretty well.  I’m not taking it too fast because she’s going to the Coast Guard around June for boot camp, then to some training thing, so she’s gonna be gone for like 6 months.  Maybe I should try speeding things up ;-). Anywho, I can’t do long distance relationships and I don’t think she can either.  So we’ll see how that goes.

Oh, the name of the post is about today.  I was try’n to get my buddy to buy me a snack.  I said taco’s.  After a bit of debate, he said he’d get me one if i ate a “fire” packet of taco bell sauce.  I did.  Thus I’m getting a free taco.  I think that’s a fair trade.

Anyways, that’s it, I’ll try to come up with more stuff to put up here from time to time.

History Lesson…

t’s been a while since my last real post, and for good reason. This semester was a bitch, and the end of it was evidence of this. I worked my ass of all semester to get good grades, and well at least I passed all my classes. Although, I’m happy to report I aced my programming class, 99.87 to be exact. I got a 103 on the final hehe. Now if only i could have done that on my calc final. However, I did pass calc, which is more than I could say for the fall. In retrospect, I should have just talked to Dr. Neath and I probably could have gotten the C. I wish I had talked to my cousin earlier than a week or two after the semester was over. I took engineering economics over again this semester, I failed it miserably in the spring. This semester I was doing good, but I suck at tests, I can teach people how to do this shit, but when it comes to the test, I suck it up. Mostly because they were multiple choice. I’m much better at computational stuff. The “one” computational quiz we got, I aced. I digress, I got a C I passed, I suppose I should be happy. What I am happy for though is I got a B in the seconds semester of physics. That was a hard course, but for some reason I got it, I understood it. I probably would have gotten a A had I not fubard the last test. I’m an idiot and suck at tests. I always go to fast and didn’t have time to review the test. I should just be happy with my B, but damn it I want A’s.

n other news, Leslie and I broke up. Not cause we hate each other or anything bad. We just decided we were poor matches. Just different outlooks on the world and values. You know, we are actually happier and have more fun being just friends. Which is great. I wish my relationship with Jessica had gone this way, but I’m sure I had a bit to contribute to how it went down. However, she’s over reacted several times and so it takes both parties for friendship to work out.

Leslie and I already swapped Xmas presents. We’re not going to see each other on Xmas, so it just made sense. Leslie collects the vintage collection games that sell at Target. I was there one day and saw they came out with some new ones. I picked her up Risk, only because I love the game, and it was a game of luck/strategy, so I thought she might like it. She did, at first (when she was winning) however, the next round I was dominating her. And she wasn’t having fun. I did it again the third round and that was it. So she took it home and played with her parents, and she wants a rematch cause she thinks she understands how its played now. I’ll be ready. She got me a fun Mario shirt, and a sushi making kit. Haven’t made any sushi yet, but I can’t wait! =)

h, BTW, mother nature is a bitch! Had a huge party planned out for my birthday last Saturday. Had a ton of people planning on showing up, even people from back home. What does it do? Snow’s like a mother fucker all day. I got about 10 – 12 people to show up, which was enough for me to have a good time. It just pissed me off to no end.

Well I think that’s enough of an update. I’ll try to get more thoughts up here.

Like a jackrabbit…

So I wanted to give an update real quick. As some know, those who are going to SIUE, finals week is just around the corner; next week to be exact. So this is gonna be a super crazy week for me and for most of us down here.

Just got my last test back from physics, got a frick’n B! That puts me close to or at a B right now, do good on the final and I’ll get a B or an A in the class, I’ll have to cross quite a bit of fingers to get the A, but here’s to try’n. Speaking of grades, I’m suck’n it up in Calc, the last test pretty well screwed me for the final. I have to get a A on the final to ensure a passing grade. *sigh* Its not like I don’t know the material, its just I make stupid frigg’n mistakes. Whats worse, I go over the test like 3 times after I’m done, re doing most of the equations making sure I do them right. This is generally bad though cause I’ve actually changed answers and then gotten them wrong. Uggh So you can imagine what I’m going to be study’n hard core this week.

On another note, I’ve been work’n pretty hard lately to eat right and work out. Well its paid off pretty well. I haven’t changed my weight at all, which is fine because I’m at my optimal weight. What I have done is converted 50% of my fat to lean muscle. Go me, as well as just about every other aspect I got tested at.

Thats my quick, like a jackrabbit, update… Till after finals!

So its been a little bit since I last posted, theres a good reason for this. Last few weeks I’ve been mad study’n for physics and calculus. The calculus hasn’t been that bad so far, but I suspect that it will get worse. However, physics has been a big zit on my ass. I do admit its starting to get better, just gotta open your mind and let the shit pour in. Physics, in my mind, is a bit common sense and a bit bullshit. Once you get past the bullshit, it all makes sense ;-). Other then that my C++ class takes up a good amount of time. Thankfully my good friends Andy and Suzie (who are engaged now, they’re so cute…) are in the class too so we all work on the program together. It helps. Oh yeah my last class, econ; I don’t think I actually not slept in the class as of yet. *shrug*

Oh, started a new workout routine! I’m gonna start swimming on Tuesday and Thursday (my only days I can get to the pool before 7:30 when lap swim is done) and strength training on the other days. Had the cutest personal trainer the other day show me the kinda work out I probably should do. She had these bright blue eyes, I’m just a sucker for blue. All the really cute ones that talk to me are generally taken though, *shrug* oh well. In a few weeks after doing this routine though my abs are gonna be frigg’n rock, you can already see the 6 pack come’n back.

In other nues (yay i made a new word) some how I phucked up my Linux box a bit. I got an itch and decided to install some 36 gig 15K scsi320 drives in a raid0 array. Instead of reinstalling I just DD’d each partition over to the nue drive(s). Normally one wouldn’t think this would be a problem, but for some reason after that my system became really slow. I dunno if I phucked up some files during the DD or what. *shrug* And rather then digging though and try’n to find out what got screwed up , I think I’ll just try something new. Been meaning to anyways. I like change. Back in the day I was a Gentoo man before I became a Ubuntu bigot, and after I saw the setup Sayabon, I might have to give it a whirl once more.

I think thats all. For those who have no clue what my titles means, here it is in lamen terms: “Update the local list of installable packages.” Linux n00bs out there (sorry Andy I had to use it) may not be aware but there are several different ways of getting programs installed on linux.

  1. RPM: the most well known, useful mostly. I hate RPM, they are usually a pain in the ass, but it is the most common package for Linux
  2. DEB: really only used on debian distrobutions; such as of corse Debian, [K|X]Ubuntu, I’m sure there are more, I know Knoppix uses it on its back end.
  3. BIN: bianary packages or .bin installs are common for installs that are made for any distrobution, these aren’t very popular because you have to use the command line and many package based installs are try’n to get away from the console, it scares people.. *caughwindowzbigotscough* scuse me..
  4. Soure: Popular/Not Popular way of installing. Its nice because you get tons of options when installing them and can even optimize the compilation to run faster on your machine because it uses specific cpu instruction sets specific to you machine. (not the best option if you wanna package the binary up and spread the love) but compiling takes tons of cpu cycles, however can be pretty to watch… Shutup! I think it is!
  5. Other: There are actaully several other ways people have created to install packages on any system. One is .run installs. Generally download them with the +X already active so all you do is double click on the file and opens a nice gui to install. .package is another one, not so popular but ultimately nice idea. I could keep naming them, but I think I’m geting a bit off topic here. *shrug*

Ok class time over. Hope you enjoyed the
